The Battle of two of the biggest US giants was seen in the news this week. Apple has successfully sued Samsung for $1 billion this last week and the battle is far from over. The damages were given for infringing six of the American firm’s software and design patents. In summary it seems the court decided they pretty much copied the Iphone. Samsung is obviously trying to persuade the judge to change the verdict.
One of the instant problems Samsung face is that they have been blocked from selling one of a version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet computer. (In America) Another hearing is set in December to consider imposing a ban on the phones targeted by Apple.
Interesting stuff for patent lawyers to get their teeth into but for everyone else out there what can we take from this ongoing saga? …..Be careful. If you are involved in product design, are starting out a company, product, service ensure you get the right advice. Copying anything which is patented or protected is a serious and expensive business. If you dont get the right advice you may be copying and you don’t even realise it.
Take heed and get your self protected.
